It all Depends on How You Look at Things

“But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness;

and all these things shall be added unto you.”

Matthew 6:33

Matthew, one of the original twelve disciples of Jesus Christ, was so inspired with the kingdom of God principles that he quit his job and followed Jesus immediately. Matthew's intrigue continued as a disciple, which led him to make more references to the kingdom of God in his writings than any of the other three gospel authors.

            As you may know, Matthew was employed to collect taxes. The Bible Knowledge Commentary shows his job description paralleled the responsibility of a custom agent. Matthew had authority to pass, reject, delay, and to seize persons and goods for the government. With this kind of influence, the future of what ended on one side of the gateway or the other solely rested with the authority and power of his own word.

            Matthew exchanged the keys to his assigned government post for the spiritual keys of the kingdom of God. This greatly enlarged his circle of influence. Since he clearly understood the authority of his job in the natural, the kingdom of God was no mystery to him. He knew he had the authority to rule and reign.

            Whether or not he abused his power as a tax collector, he realized the kind of authority he possessed. After Matthew became a disciple he invited notorious swindlers to his home to be introduced to Jesus, suggesting he was personally acquainted with people who were allowed to abuse the system. He showed them that he had found a better way to exercise his authority. So you see, it all depends on how you look at things.

            Is your view of things supernatural or natural? Are you bound as a slave with the keys Jesus declared made you free? Are you employed as a servant by a system that has already been condemned? Are you a world overcomer mastering your God-given inheritance?
